This film short tells the story of Phil, a man like any other, yet very different from many for his great love for smoking. Phil’s mother was a heavy smoker and he experiences an unreal close encounter with the world of cigarettes that will change his life and the life of many others.

Born in the province of Bari, he starts to study Autocad and 3D Studio at the age of 14. Once he graduates from high school, he studies IT technology in university. He works for three years in Luxembourg for “Oniria Pictures”, first as 3D Junior Animator on a US TV serial “Bob’s Beach” – 52 episodes of 11 minutes each – and then as 3D Senior Animator on their first film “Tristan & Isolde” and then on the film “Renart the Fox”, made in 3D using 2D rendering and backdrops. Life in smoke is his first film short.

Has worked as director’s assistant for the film “Faubourg Saint-Martin” (1986) by Jean-Claude Guiguet, and “Après après-demain” (1990) by Gérard Frot-Coutaz. He has been making short films since 1992 and in 1998 he directed his first full-length film, “Plus qu’hier, moins que demain”, which won the Cyrill Collard prize. He is now working on a new full-length film.

Charles Barker’s first degree was in fine art painting at Central St Martins. On leaving college, Charles continued working as an artist creating both paintings and prints. Having always had an interest in film he also started to make experimental films and finding this a more rewarding medium, his subsequent work has been predominantly film based. In 2000 Charles decided to go back to college to study an MA in Film direction. While a student at the NFS he was the winner of the 2002 Kodak competition. Since graduating in 2002, Charles has directed commercials and is represented by Arden Sutherland Dodd. He has also completed a number of shorts, shown at festivals around the world, and has just finished writing his first feature script: ‘The half brother’.

Marco Cucurnia was born in Genoa in 1975. His relationship with the cinema has focused on Italian-style comedy and on Mario Monicelli.
Driven by this passion, he leaves his hometown at the age of 18 and he heads for Tuscany where he meets Mario Monicelli. In Rome he works for more than 10 years with the great director.
In 1996 his first works as director and scriptwriter. His first short was “Alta Velocità”. It won the Nanni Loy Prize. Then come other works such as “La città violata” that deals with the 2001 G8 Summit in Genoa.
In 2001 his dream comes true: telling the story of Mario Monicelli in the documentary “Mario Monicelli, l’artigiano di Viareggio” produced by Directory Media, presented at the 2002 Lugarno Festival and broadcast by RAI UNO. This marks the beginning of his cooperation with RAI, where he works in the promotionals dept.
In 2003 he receives two prizes from the Italian Ministry of Culture and Performing Arts: one for the film short “Làlibi”, the other for the movie “SoloMetro”.
“Làlibi” also receives other awards: first prize at the 2004 Genoa Film Festival, Kodak Prize and the Cinema School Prize at Cinecorto 2004 in Rome. It also participates in the 2004 Granada International Festival.
In 2004 he tells of his city in the documentary “Genova, amore mio” with Paolo Villaggio, produced by Directory Media and broadcast on RAI TRE.

Vittorio Badini Confalonieri was born in Turin in 1976. Writer and director, he worked in London directing commercials and music videos. In Italy he has directed music videos for artists such as Afterhours, Morgan and Modarte. In 2003 he founded, with Alberto Micelotta, the MO Vi DA company specialized in video production. They work with Italian musicians such as Alex Britti, Delta V, Mario Venuti e Cristina Donà. “The Corridor” is Vittorio’s first short film. At the moment he is writing his first feature film.

What happens if a child, which is after 27 years still connected with its mother by the umbilical cord, refuses to leave her ? The satire of a child’s late-puberty, this refusal to enter adulthood and the doctors who care for him.

Jens Jonsson, born 1974, studied graphic design between 1994 – 1998 and film directing between 1998-2001 at Dramatiska Institutet, Stockholm. He also drew comic strips for Swedish magazine In a relatively short time, he has written and directed many short films (including Brother of Mine, for which he received the Silver Bear in Berlin) that are striking thanks to original narrative techniques, sharp psychological insight in the characters and an emotional wisdom that is certainly surprising in view of his young age. Now Jonsson is working on his first feature.

In 1996, Lizzie graduated from the Royal College of Art with an MA in Animation. Her graduation film The Lacemaker won the Gold Mikeldi for Animation at the Bilbao International Documentary and Short Film Festival, and her short films have been internationally screened at numerous major film festivals. Her multi-award winning film EXTN.21 was commissioned by Channel 4 Television. As a director, she has made work for MTV Networks Europe and EMI Records UK and has just recently completed Nightly Cares for the Icelandic band Múm and Fat Cat Records. She has also created work for Real World, Readymade-Media, ENO and co-directed ‘Catch Your Breath’ (2002) with Theatre-Rites using video projection for The Lyric Theatre Hammersmith. As well her moving image work, she’s also a published illustrator and has been a visiting lecturer on the Theatre Design course at Wimbledon School of Art since 1997. Her work has also been exhibited at the Royal Academy of Art in London
