Salvatore, Annamaria, Alfonso and Riccardo, all of them in their forties and middle class, come from Naples but are living away from it because of their work. They all come back to attend the funeral of their dearest friend Antonio. After the wake, they decide to have dinner together. From this moment onwards, they start exchanging tales, memories, shared experiences. They will go through the whole night attempting to make an assessment of their lives.

The survival of Chersogno, a small town in the Italian western Alps, depends only on a small numer of old people still living htere and on the few tourists passing by. A young French shepherd and his family join the small community, bringing along their sheep and their cheese-making business. Though not wholeheartedly, the village welcomes him, and he becomes the proof that a renewal is possible for the small town and its inhabitants. But, slowly, life becomes more difficult for him because of the misunderstandings, the barriers and the evy surrounding him. A number of inhabitants find his presence too awkward and a series of midadventures finally divide the town in two opposite factions.

It’s eight o’clock in the morning. Marta is biting at a doughnut on her way home from sleeping over at her aunt’s. A van stops by. Mario, a retarded boy, talks her into following him to his farm. Everyone’s worried, as Marta is only six years old. Inspector Sanzio is an expert policeman who has just moved to town. Hi colleague Siboldi is younger and a local. he becomes his guide into the personal and family connections of the small community. Together with Alfredo, Sanzio’s colleague from his homicide squad days, the two inspectors will have to stick around, as another crime is about to be discovered, a crime rooted in the family ties of the small town, the result of a relationship gone wrong. Anyone Sanzio meets and questions is a potential killer. The inspector feels strangely involved with the investigation: his family is going through a similarly heartbreaking process.

A well-dealt hit on the tip of the chin triggers a double traumatic mechanism: cervial trauma and cerebral graft. That kin dof hit generally causes a sense of loss and black-out, but different after-effects may occur. Lethal as well. Starting from a boxer experience, the short film we present describes this moment, called boxing paradise from the boxing slang. It’s a sort of limbo, here translated into a hotel’s parlour, where six boxers coming from different places meet without knowing why. A time with no time, an impalpable place between life and death that reflects the daily condition every boxer lives in.

Stefano Quaglia is an associate founding member and executive producer of The Family, a production company based in Milan, Rome and Madrid. Stefano works in Madrid making commercials and producing films and documentaries for The Family. Boxing Paradise is his first short film.

The dog gets sick and Ilia goes to the drug store for medicine. The forces of the law catch him and put him back on the shop window.
