Esterno/Giorno, the walking tours of the sets of films and television series shot in Friuli Venezia Giulia, is to be hosted at this year’s ShorTS International Film Festival.

The setting-up, in 2009, of the Casa del Cinema in Trieste and over twenty years’ successful work by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Film Commission prompted those in the industry who had gathered at the Casa del Cinema to formulate and shape a programme that would sum up all the passion and propensity that Trieste and the region have for the seventh art. Thus the project Esterno/Giorno came into being, an original formula of themed walking tours led by a film critic and a professional working on the set of the film relevant to the tour. But what happens if a location is closed to the public? Thanks to the use of VR viewers made available to the participants, even spaces usually closed to the public can be fully explored. The film critic guides the user through a virtual tour filled with immersive photographs and videos, special features, set and backstage photos, “tricks of the trade” and interesting facts. With VR visors, as well as entering inaccessible locations, it is possible to compare the original locations with the different transformations seen on the small and big screen.

The Casa del Cinema di Trieste association website describes the guided tours currently available, some of which are “special editions”, special walking tours that are not repeated continuously but which represent unique opportunities for exploring sets.

This year the programme for the ShorTS International Film Festival is in line with the festival’s choice of a dual format, a live walking tour and an online date with a new episode of Esterno/Giorno_Frames, small cabinets of curiosities for narrating locations, sets, films, actors and filmmakers of the past and present.

The episode Di quel giorno del 1974 che Ellis Island si svegliò a Trieste will be available to accredited users throughout the festival on the MYmovies.it platform.

For fans and tourists who want to discover the city through cinema, Esterno/Giorno offers a tour guided by Elisa Grando (film journalist) and Michele Sardina (location manager) on the sets of the film Non odiare. Special guest of the event will be the young star of the film, Luka Zunic.

The guided tour is scheduled for Sunday 4 July at 10:00, starting at the Casa del Cinema (in front of Teatro Miela, Piazza Duca degli Abruzzi 3). Reservations are required via email to office@maremetraggio.com stating the name, surname, phone number and email address of each person wanting to take part.
