INTERNATIONAL FILM SHORTS FESTIVAL

REGULATION

1.  ORGANIZERS
The Maremetraggio Festival – International Film Shorts Festival is organized by the Maremetraggio Association and sponsored by Public and Private Entities.

2. DATE & LENGTH
The 6th edition of the Maremetraggio Festival will be held in Trieste, Italy, from July 2nd to July 9th, 2005, and it will last 8 days.

3. FESTIVAL SECTIONS
The Festival is divided into different sections. These are:

o Maremetraggio section
o Ippocampo-Debut Work section
o Corallino section
o CEI section

4. MAREMETRAGGIO SECTION
This section is for film shorts to have won the selected Italian and European Festivals. The festivals and films are selected by the Festival Organization and its decision is final.
The selected film shorts cannot last more than 20 minutes.
The authors of the selected works will be notified directly by the Festival organizers and must send by January 31, 2005 a VHS cassette or DVD of the film together with exhaustive information and the registration form duly filled in.
The support for the projection of the selected works (Mini Dv, Beta SP or 35 mm) must be sent and received by the Festival organizers no later than June 20, 2005.
The Festival Organization will appoint a Jury of five qualified people for the award of the prize to the best film short and to the best Italian film short.
A jury of 5 journalists will award the critics prize.

5. IPPOCAMPO – DEBUT WORK SECTION
This section will include 7 debut works by directors to have started their career with a film short to be projected together with the competing film.
The film must have been produced during 2004.
The competing films are selected by the Festival Organization and its decision is final.
The Producers contacted or interested in participating in the preliminary selection must send Associazione Maremetraggio a VHS cassette of DVD of the film with the technical sheet and press book by February 28, 2005 (the postmark will determine timely submittal).
The Festival Organization will appoint a Jury of experts from the world of cinema to award the Ippocampo prize to the best film, the Ippocampo prize to the best actor, the Ippocampo prize to the best actress and to the most 'daring' Producer.
  
6. CORALLINO SECTION (competition announcement)
Section for the best junior high school and high school film short.
The Festival Organization will appoint a jury of experts to award to the Corallino prize to the best junior high school and high school film short.
The competing films are selected by the Festival Organization and its decision is final.

7. CEI SECTION (entry form)
Section for short films from the countries belonging to the CEI (Albania, Austria, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy, Macedonia, Moldavia, Poland, Rumania, Serbia and Montenegro, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine).
The preliminary selection of the registered films will be performed by the Festival Organization and its decision is final. It will admit just one film of 15 minutes per country. A jury of experts will award the CEI Prize. Those interested in participating must send Associazione Maremetraggio a vhs cassette or DVD of the film with the technical sheet by March 31, 2005 (the postmark will determine timely submittal).                                                     

The deadline is postponed to April 15th 2005.

9. FILMS SUBMITTED AND DISPATCH OF COPIES
All of the works selected or sent to the festival must be accompanied by the complete documentation composed of:

– entry form duly filled in
– complete list of the dialogues in original language and English
– synopsis
– technical sheet
– director's biography
– photos of the film and director
– a VHS cassette or DVD of the film
– any other promotional material

The material is to be sent to:

The VHS cassettes or DVDs of the films will not be returned, but will be included in the Festival archives.
The mail expenses for the incoming films are at the expense of the applicants, while the Festival will cover those for their return.
The films are covered by insurance against damage with a policy taken out by the Festival for the period during which the copies will remain in its possession.

8. FILM PROJECTION
The schedule and program for the projections will be decided by the Festival Organization, which will publish a general catalogue of the works submitted.

9. PRIZES
Maremetraggio Section
Maremetraggio Prize – 10,000 Euros to the best film short
Kodak Prize – 2500 meters of film to the best Italian film short
Anec Audience Prize to the best film short – distribution of the winning film short in cinemas
Critics Prize to the best film short – plaque

Ippocampo – Debut Work Section
Ippocampo Prize to the best debut work – plaque
Ippocampo Prize to the best actor – plaque
Ippocampo Prize to the best actress – plaque
Audience Prize to the best film – plaque
Courage Prize to the producer of a debut work – plaque

Corallino Section
Prize to the best junior high school film short
Prize to the best high school film short

CEI Section
Prize to the best film – money prize yet to be determined

The Festival Organization is free to add or change the prizes listed above.

11. GENERAL RULES
Each author is liable for the content of his/her works.
The competing participants authorize the Festival to use their name and address for all purposes related to the event. The information in the entry form will be published in the event's catalogue and in the Festival's website.
Participation in the competition implies the acceptance of these rules in full.
These rules are issued in Italian and English. In case of problems relating to interpretation, the Italian version shall apply.
