Esiodo advised: “When you make a deal with your brother be polite, but make sure to have a witness”. Therefore he considered to be brothers a certain source of possible misunderstandings, oppressions, overpowering. Our protagonist, Flavio, is even harder: “A brother is a stranger who was born before or after you”. In his case, he was ten years old when he received from his mother a “present” which was his brother, Francesco. From then on he has to share his live, the family firm, the family, his mother’s heart, the respect of his father and, why not, also women….
Francesco is thirty years old and is an impertinent single. He cannot stand the world anymore, as it is but he does not do anything to change it. Eccentric philosopher, ironic and disenchanted, he is involved with his last blind date organised by his sister in law Laura. During an incoherent and overwhelming evening he meets Elisa. Fragile, blond, ethereal, Elisa is the dancing teacher of Flavio’s girls, but most of all she is for the last two years his secret lover. As we usually say the plot gets more complicated. The coup of theatre follow one after another, and the conflicts explode in a meeting in four where Flavio, besides getting drunk, tells his wife, after his brother and Elisa leaves, that he loves another woman and that between them it is over. But other events, more painful, will upset in a definitive way the lives of every one…
From the homonym novel by Lorenzo Licalzi.
