SEVENTH EDITION

Maremetraggio, Trieste's International Short Film Festival, held each year on the first week of July, has reached its sixth edition in 2005 and shall continue its tireless activity offering to its audience high quality works with a unique pan- European coverage (also through its CEI dedicated section) promoting countries of low capacity production, young professionals and inter-cultural dialogue.

Core of the event are the four screening sections which follow:

  • Maremetraggio Section dedicated to shorts that, in the previous year, have won the most important European Festivals. The event's strong emphasis on European works, will see many national and non-national European short films compete for the final prize of € 10.000,00;
  • Ippocampo Section, dedicated to debut films shot the previous year by directors who have started their artistic career with short films;
  • Corallino Section, dedicated to the best Italian film short by Italian junior high schools and high schools ; in the last edition 150 works were submitted of which 16 were selected and 2 screened.
  • CEI Section, a special competition for short films and directors from countries belonging to the Central European Initiative. This in order to offer an overview of the Central Europe cinema as well as to enhance the eastern European production and promote works from EU candidate (Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia), western Balkans (Bosnia Herzegovina, Serbia Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia) and NIS countries ( Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus).

The Festival will be an event unique in its kind for the number of prizes:

Maremetraggio is also member of the European Coordination of Film Festival and of the AFIC (Italian Film Festivals Association).

In 2006, Maremetraggio is planning to increase the total number of the films to be put on screen.

Maremetraggio will continue promoting its initiatives such as the “Maremetraggio Village” (free entrance) with meetings, press conferences and special projections. This will bring about parallel events, giving an added value to the kermesse. Interacting with representatives “cinema world” makes Maremetraggio a very attractive event. Directors, actors, distributors and directors of photography will also be available for the public during the lively morning debates in particular.

Special attention has always focused on training activities, bringing together more and more young visitors over the years.

Maremetraggio offers free entrance. During our last edition we counted a daily attendance of around 1.900 people and a total festival audience of 13.000.

Finally, the Festival is a unique opportunity for whoever likes cinema, audiovisual expression and new forms of communication.
