Michele is a lonely man with various manias and obsessions. He spends most of his time watching his few friends and neighbours. Couples are what attract him most: driven by his obsession, he very often encroaches on their privacy and takes note of everything. He works as a math teacher in a private and prestigious school, where everything appears surreal. One day, the lady living next door is found dead. Michele knew her and had sometimes watched her from his balcony. Despite not being suspected of the crime, the police questions him. Bianca, a new, charming colleague, starts working at the school: Michele falls in love with her and is reciprocated. His friends Ignazio and Maria – who cheated on each other and then split up – get back together. One day, Michele comes across the couple having dinner in a restaurant with their former lovers and is shocked. He splits up with Bianca and closes into himself. Ignazio and Maria are killed. Questioned again by the police, poor Michele confesses to the murders.
