RULES and REGULATIONS
ORGANISATION
ShorTS International Film Festival is organised by Associazione Maremetraggio and is sponsored by Public and Private Entities.
1. DATES & DURATION
ShorTS International Film Festival is held in Trieste, Italy, from July 1 to July 9, 2022 and will last for 9 (nine) days.
2. FESTIVAL SECTIONS
The Festival is divided into five sections:
- Maremetraggio Section
- Last Chance Section
- ShorTS Virtual Reality Section
- Shorter Kids’n’Teens Section
- Nuove Impronte Section (by invitation)
3. MAREMETRAGGIO SECTION
This section is reserved for short films that won one or more prizes in one or more international festivals during 2021. All submitted short films must not exceed 20 minutes in terms of length (titles included) and must have been produced after January, 2020.
The films are selected at the incontestable discretion of the Artistic Direction of the Festival.
4. LAST CHANCE SECTION
This section includes short films that did not win any award. Submitted films must not exceed 10 minutes (titles included) and must have been produced after January 2021. All genres are eligible.
A maximum of ten films from this section will be included in the Maremetraggio section of the Festival.
5. VIRTUAL REALITY SECTION
This section is open to VR short films which shall not exceed 20 minutes of length. The formats must be compatible with Oculus Go headsets.
However, VR short films of different formats from the format indicated above, may be submitted directly to the attention of the curator of the section to be included in the Festival’s special events.
6. SHORTER KIDS’N’TEENS SECTION
This section accepts every genre of short films dedicated to children from ages 6 to 15 years old. All submitted works must have been produced after January 2021 and must not exceed 15 minutes in terms of length (titles included). The selection of the short films for the two sections (Shorter Kids and Shorter Teens) will be made by the Selecters, a group of children and teenagers coordinated by the Festival’s Artistic Direction, within the framework of a film literacy educational project. The audience award will be assigned by two juries of children (aged 6 to 10 for the Kids section) and teenagers (aged 11 to 15 for the Teens section).
7. NUOVE IMPRONTE SECTION
Nuove Impronte is a competitive section dedicated to up-and-coming authors. This section is reserved for both Italian and international feature films, both fiction and documentaries, of more than 70 minutes. Films must have been produced between January 2021 and June 2022 and they will be screened – preferably – as Italian, international or world premiere.
The films are selected by invitation at the incontestable discretion of the Artistic Direction of the Festival.
8. MATERIALS REQUIRED FOR ENROLLMENT
All interested in participation must enroll their short film on-line by using one of the following platforms, by no later than 28 February 2022:

Films will become part of the Festival archive and may be used free of charge for non-profit purposes such as screenings in schools, cinema clubs, etc. .
For any other kind of screenings the Festival will ask for single written permissions.
9. SELECTED FILMS
The authors of the selected films will be contacted by the Festival staff and are requested to provide all the materials listed in the notification of the selection (photos, texts, dialogues lists…), as soon as possible.
10. SCREENINGS OF FILMS IN COMPETITION
The Artistic Direction of the Festival is responsible for the calendar and the screening schedule which will be made available after the programme has been finalized.
11. PRIZES
The Artistic Direction will choose one or more Juries of experts that will award the following prizes:
Maremetraggio Section
- Best Short Film Award (€ 5.000,00)
- Best Italian Short Film Award (€ 3.000,00)
- Best Italian Editing Short
- People’s Choice Award for Best Short Film
Virtual Reality Section
- Best Virtual Reality Short (€ 2.000,00)
Shorter Kids’n’Teens Section
- Shorter Kids Award for Best Short Film
- Shorter Teens Award for Best Short Film
Nuove Impronte Section:
- Best Feature Film Award
- Audience Award for Best Feature Film
- SNCCI Award – best feature film as chosen by the jury of Sindacato Nazionale Critici Cinematografici Italiani
The Artistic Direction of the Festival reserves the right to change the above-mentioned awards. The jury reserves the right to assign honorable mentions.
Please note that cash prizes are subject to a 25% taxation according to Italian law (art. 30, 2° comma DPR 600/73). Cash prizes are meant to be given to the winning director. Should the prize be cashed by other parties (production or distribution) a waiver signed by the director is needed.
Cash prizes must be claimed within one year after notification.
12. GENERAL RULES
Each author is liable for the content of his or her works. Participants authorise the Festival to use their name and address for all purposes related to the event. The information given in the entry form will be published in the catalogue of the Festival and on the Festival’s Website.
The participation in the Festival implies the full understanding of this regulation, and compliance with its terms.
This regulation is issued in both Italian and English. In case of problems or inconsistencies relating to its interpretation, the Italian version shall prevail.
