Sinossi / Synopsis

Quando suo nonno si ammala in modo terminale, Xiao Le, una giovane donna cristiana, deve prendere una decisione sull’opportunità di intervenire tramite i rituali taoisti della famiglia. Spinta dal desiderio di salvare l’anima del nonno inizia a pregare segretamente al suo capezzale. Quando sua madre scopre l’inganno ne rimane devastata.

When her grandfather becomes terminally ill, Xiao Le, a young Christian woman, feels conflicted as to whether she should intervene in her family’s Taoist rituals. In an attempt to save her grandfather’s soul, she starts praying by his bedside in secret. When her mother finds out, she is devastated.

Biografia regista / Biography Director

Mickey Lai

Nata nel 1995 in Malesia, Mickey Lai è un’autrice e regista emergente. Nel 2020 ottiene il Master of Fine Arts – Film and TV Production alla Met Film School di Londra. Lavora attivamente nel suo paese come regista freelance, assistente alla regia e montatrice. Recentemente il suo cortometraggio di debutto semi-autobiografico The Cloud Is Still There è stato selezionato al prestigioso festival di Clermont-Ferrand, in Francia.

Born in Malaysia in 1995, Mickey Lai is an emerging writer-director. In 2020, she graduated with a Master of Fine Arts – Film and TV Production at The Met Film School, London. She has actively been involved in the Malaysia film and TV industry as a freelance director, assistant director and editor. Recently her debut, the semi-autobiographical short film The Cloud Is Still There, has been selected in the prestigious International Short Film Festival Clermont-Ferrand.
