The hunger and pain people suffered during the armed conflict are branded in nine women’s hearts and minds who are there to give birth. The protagonist, Nina, is the first one to be hospitalised because of some complications. The atmosphere in the room she shares with other women is of mutual support and solidarity. Nina will discover a completely unknown world: stories of difficulty and hardships, abandonment and betrayal, but also of love, passion, solidarity and sweetness. Thanks to the women she meets and their unique, yet universal stories, Nina will gain the necessary awareness and strength to face what is going to happen: the great and frightening experience of motherhood.

Valerio runs away from the clinic and dies in pavilion 22 of the mental hospital where he was confined as a child, before the Basaglia bill was passed. Valerio has tormented Laura ever since his death: she is torn apart because of her sense of guilt and the hatred she felt for her brother, who was nothing but a hindrance and a burden to the whole family. Since his death, Valerio has been a threatening presence, obsessively reminding Laura of her terrible indifference. The cruel fight between Laura and the ghost, or better said, between Laura and her sense of guilt, develops in a crescendo of tension and hallucinations taking Laura back to the 70s, forcing her to explore her past and to deal with the patients’ ghosts and a younger Valerio.

Unfortunately, and much to his surprise, he fails his school year. His parents take an irrevocable decision: he cannot go on holiday. Alessio finds the punishment unbearable and decides to leave anyway. He jumps on his moped, determined to join his friends at all costs. However, circumstances force him to stop on the coast near Rome longer than he planned and, despite himself, work in a bathing establishment run by a weird family, to say the least. His summer will be extremely challenging: he will run away, come back, meet odd fellow travellers, be seduced and, in turn, break some hearts. Very soon he will realize that travelling is not only a question of kilometres.
