Three brothers. A basement. The same basement where they used to hide as children. The rest of the family is making Christmas lunch upstairs. The three brothers have not seen each other nor celebrated Christmas together for ten years. There is a radio in the basement. An old, dusty radio tuned in to a station broadcasting uncensored telephone calls. It is a kind of 24-hours confessional, where everyone tells about things that cannot be said. “It’s an innocent game, let’s call!” So they start playing an odd Russian roulette, where the person drawn will have to call the radio. But what happens when the Christmas night of ten years ago is mentioned? What happens when everyone starts revealing, call after call, their real nature? What happens when the past becomes an obsession?

After a brilliant career as a fencer, Paolo now works as a sports journalist for a local newspaper. His friend Franz has died because of a heart attack. Just like Paolo, he was a former champion fencer and later became an entrepreneur, like many others living in that rich, northern province. At some point, Paolo realises that his friend’s life was not as clear as he thought. Even his death seems to hide some secrets. For Paolo, the search for the truth becomes an adventure in a completely unknown world, the world of the rich leather tanning entrepreneurs. It is a dirty world, but a fascinating one at the same time. A world of unusual encounters, like that with Giordano’s children: Chiara, his young and wild daughter, and little Leo, suffering from a particular form of autism that will help Paolo throw light on Franz’s life and death.
