A man, carrying no documents and in a state of shock, is taken by the Police to a shabby and isolated police station, somewhere on the mountains by a border. While he’s waiting for the superintendent, the man looks very nervous and reveals an aggressive temper. When the superintendent arrives, he demands that his rights are respected: but, according to the police officer, the fact that the man has provided a false identity aggravates his position. As a matter of fact, the man has declared to be Onoff, a well-known writer, and, unfortunately for him, also the superintendent’s favorite writer, so much so that he knows many chunks of his books by heart. A long and tiresome interrogation will follow, and the story will find an explanation as the daylight starts clearing the last shadows of an apparently endless night.
