Tonino is going to marry Teresa, the arrogant and frustrated daughter of a rich fish merchant of a small town in the south of Italy. In fact, he’s in love with her cousin, Maddalena, who is a pure and happy girl. When Tonino leaves Teresa for her cousin at the altar, she is full of rage and jealousy, and asks Antonangelo, a cunning barber, the son of the local witch, to change Tonino’s heart with his magic. Despite his total lack of magic skills, Antonangelo succeeds, but in doing so he will complicate things so much that his mother will have to take over to put things right.
