ENGLISH VERSIONOdyssey-animated painting is an animated film that tells the story of Homer’s Odyssey condensed into 9 minutes. It realizes the story in all of its parts: The Trojan horse, the island of the lotus-eaters, Polyphemus, the wineskin of the winds, Circe, the meeting with the dead, the sirens, Scylla and Carybdis, the sacred sun oxen, Calypso, the story told by Ulysses, the return to Ithaca, the web of Penelope, the massacre of suitors. Without dialogue, the story is expressed through images accompanied by music and sound.

Alessia Lucchetta is a painter who received her degree from the Accademia di Belle Arti of Florence, Italy. Her paintings are an exploration of movement that utilizes the camera to deepen the cinematographic representation of “animated painting”. The definition of this type of animation technique is a personal one. It is used exclusively to describe the application of colors directly on the paper with the brush, frame after frame, so the form gradually develops with each brush stroke. The total realization of the animated picture including the adaptation of the story, sound, music and editing is done by one person, the filmmaker. Her first experiments, made in 1987, were presented in exhibitions as paintings in motion. She then developed the painting animation to transform expressions and emotions in portraits. Subsequently a slow progression brought about the representation of characters who perform actions which reveal a storyline. The telling of a story – the Odyssey – is a new experiment.
