Then they shut down his section and they throw him out. But what can he do outside? What are you if you don’t have your job anymore? Vince is Cenzo’s 20-year-old son who wants to go away to a big city to study and to know the world. His girl friend Elena is twenty years old but she hasn’t any desire to leave the village where she is happy. She wants to get married, have children, and have a house, a job, to stay there. Genny instead is a waitress in Pescara, she is also 20 years old and she would like to see the world. But she can’t go anywhere. As she steps on a train she feels herself dying even if she goes to a party or to a concert. She suffers of panic crisis. Anita, her mother, is a cook in the same restaurant where she works; they take the seasons, summer here, and winter there. Cenzo, Vince, Genny, Anita, Elena, in a summer at the sea, among crowded beaches, premises full, customers to serve, foolish and desperate gesture, quarrels and love affairs, trains that you manage to catch and to miss. In short, as summer is often a special time and sometimes complicated in which we will discover who great it is to be free. Really free, free from ourselves, free from our fears, free from our complex, from our defeats, from the social conventions, free from what we believed and not anymore, from disillusions in short from everything and everyone.
