Since 2000, the year of its establishment, the Maremetraggio Association promotes cinematographic activity, its study and its diffusion through the organization of festivals, conferences, professional training courses and workshops. To achieve its aims, the Association annually organizes ShorTS – International Film Festival (until 2013 called Festival Maremetraggio), a competitive festival dedicated to short films from all over the world and to Italian independent cinema. ShorTS – International Film Festival aims to promote young Italian and international cinema thanks to a rich quality program both in film content (short films, feature films and documentaries) as well as cultural and collateral activities such as workshops, meetings, special events and round tables aimed at creating links between young promises and professionals in the sector. ShorTS IFF also aims to make known the short film to an increasingly young and heterogeneous audience, paying particular attention to school-age children with a section of film dedicated entirely to them and organizing some workshops. Furthermore, the festival aims to renew itself and open itself to the new frontiers of cinema and virtual technology.
It also confirms the work done with Casa Circondariale di Trieste, where every year a jury of prisoners assigns the Oltre il Muro Award to the best Italian short, and since 2015 it has dedicated a competitive section to short films for children aged 6 to 15, whose selection is taken care of by a 14-year-old boy.
