MIIA TERVO
I grew up near the Artic Circle, Lapland of Finland in a small village called Muurola. I worked in a fish factory in the north of Norway, in a little village too, and volunteered in an orphanage on the Fiji Islands. After that, I wrote poems for a yea, again in a small village. I ended up studying cinema in Turku, and have been studying documentary film directing at the Department of Film and Television of the Helsinki University of Art and Design for two years now . “The Seal” is
my first experience in documentary film directing, so my filmography is pretty much that. Now I am writing a film called “A Little Mouse and Other Drunks”.

This short is about the accidental meeting of a young girl and a man in the veranda of a wooden cottage. A fascinating and provocative moment of communication develops between these two people who are unlikely to see each other ever again. The magic of the autumn nature helps them overcome obvious differences and find the things they share– a cigarette, the sense of humour, simple human respect and a certain rebellion to the world as it is. His taking his clothes off to satisfy her curiosity confirms the bond of trust between them.

ALESSANDRO GIGLIO
Alessandro Giglio was born on 4 January 1976 in Naples, where he studied and took a diploma at the Art School “F.Palizzi”. His passion for cinema lead him to study at the ”Le.Co.Le.” institute to become a camera operator. While still studying and working part time, he had his debut as a TV actor. He then worked as a continuity boy for the Movie “Mater Natura” for Kubla Khan Productions. Following the producer’s proposal, he decided to leave his home town and move to Rome to work and follow his passion for cinema. The new city and the bigger spaces inspired his soul: he then started to think about writing a project. After working as a continuity boy for a long time, he changed sector to increase his knowledge and started to work as assistant set designer, and then as set designer for an Italian TV advertising. The idea of “Dad give it up” was then ready to be written, and only after two months – with the help of director of photography Stanislao Galasso, actors and the crew – he began shooting “Dad give it up”, his first short movie.
